Abstract: The goal of this paper is to present an overview of the current modes of scrutinizations addressing the issue of a new quantified order of worth, the so called alternative metrics or altmetrics and propose an additional perspective that may help to contribute to a more thorough discussion on the reflexivity of these metrics. In general we propose three major modes of scrutinization that can be observed. These three modes of scrutinization address distinctive facets of establishing indicators and may even be universal to other forms of quantification.
