Abstract: The aim of the presentation is to sketch how one may use the references in handbooks to map scientific disciplines both in terms of their researchers and their research topics. This approach was taken in the study of attachment (Kroonenberg, Stoltenborgh and Mesman, 2010) using the references from the first two editions of the Handbook of Attachment. The presentation promotes the methodology using the references from the Handbook of Quantitative Studies of Science and Technology, edited by Van Raan (1988).
