Abstract: This thesis will focus on the Piquetero movement as pioneers when it comes to the co-optation of a social movement into the governmental sphere. It analyzes the historical development of the movement between 1996 and 2016 and with that, focuses on the concepts of clientelism and patronage politics. Finally, it will conclude on the co-optation of the movement with regard to the reachability of their goals.
