Deze BA scriptie behandelt het koloniale bestuur van Johan Maurits van Nassau-Siegen in Nederlands-Brazilië. Er wordt gekeken in hoeverre het koloniale bestuur van hem bijzonder te noemen valt. Als vergelijkingsmateriaal worden de Franse en Engelse koloniën in Afrika genomen. Direct-rule en indirect-rule vormen een belangrijk component in deze scriptie.
