This paper expostulates on the results of testing Cognitive Load Theory and the Modality Principle of Multimedia Teaching on Dutch secondary school pupils who were exposed to Old English literature for the first time. The research supports the findings of experts in the field of pedagogy and psychology as long-term memory proved to be critical to the success of cognitive processing of new information.
